IIMS Hackathon: Deep Learning Codefest

IIMS College is proud to announce the successful conduction of its first-ever Hackathon, IIMS Hackathon: Deep Learning Codefest, held on July 7th, 2024. This 10-hour-long continuous hackathon was designed to bring together student teams from the Bachelor of Computer Science faculty to tackle real-world challenges using deep learning techniques. Each student team comprised senior students from the March & August 2022 intake and juniors and freshers from the recent intakes. This encouraged knowledge sharing and fostered skill building as they came together to take on the coding challenge.

IIMS Hackathon: Deep Learning Codefest – A Signature Event for Aspiring Deep Learners

The IIMS Hackathon: Deep Learning Codefest is the college’s signature event, opening up a platform for students to:

  • Apply their knowledge: Students can put their classroom learning into practice by solving a real-world problem statement using deep learning.
  • Showcase their skills: The hackathon provides a stage for students to demonstrate their deep learning expertise and compete for exciting prizes.
  • Bridge the theory-practice gap: The event aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

A series of stages took place before we reached the main Hackathon Day.

Let’s take a look at the Event Timeline!

1. Bootcamp Session

IIMS College conducted a 10-day Bootcamp Training before the main event to prepare participants for the hackathon. The Bootcamp titled “: AI & ML Bootcamp: From Theory to Practice” was divided into three phases. Click here to know more.

2. Team Registration

As soon as the registrations rolled out, students started forming teams and registered through a Google Form, adhering to specific requirements and rules.

3. Environment Setup

The next step involved setting up the coding environment, including platform selection, link configuration, and internet testing. A clear layout and representation were established to facilitate efficient coding, and code pipelines were configured for smooth execution. The organizers also briefed the mentors on the setup and requirements.

4. Environment Test

A final test was conducted to ensure all participants’ coding environments were functioning correctly. Finally, the highly anticipated Hackathon Day arrived, where teams competed to create innovative solutions using deep learning techniques.

5. Hackathon Day

IIMS Hackathon: Deep Learning Codefest

The Hackathon Day brought together bright minds eager to tackle real-world challenges using deep learning techniques. Held at Aranya Boutique Hotel – Shivapuri Block, this event was a resounding success. The halls were occupied with strong problem solvers with their devices all set immersed in their coding tasks. Outside, the refreshments and game stalls drew the students’ attention and engaged them in between the hackathon breaks.

The Challenge: Autonomous Vehicle Efficiency

Students were tasked with developing an efficient model for autonomous vehicles. They had to analyze various factors such as traffic patterns, road conditions, pedestrian behavior, and potential obstacles to ensure the safety and effectiveness of their solutions.

The day was a whirlwind of research, coding, testing, and presentation preparation. Students worked tirelessly to develop their models and refine their solutions. It was a full-on coding marathon.

Using deep learning frameworks, they developed models capable of predicting vehicle behavior, identifying obstacles, and making informed driving decisions.

To ensure accuracy and efficiency, students rigorously tested their models using various datasets and scenarios.

After hours of intense coding and collaboration, student teams took turns to present their innovative solutions to a panel of judges. The presentations highlighted the unique features and benefits of each team’s approach.

After these long hours, it was now time to evaluate and announce the winners. Judges evaluated the solutions based on accuracy, innovation, code quality, and presentation.

After careful deliberation, the winners were announced as:

  • Best Model: Team Hacktastic
  • Innovative Solution: Team Hexaminner
  • Outstanding Presentation: [Team Name]
  • Best Team Spirit: Team CodeX

Overall, the IIMS Hackathon: Deep Learning Codefest was a valuable opportunity for students to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical challenges. By participating in this event, students gained hands-on experience and developed essential skills for a career in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
