UCSI Receives Malaysia’s Best Private University Award

May 25, 2019 was certainly a memorable day for UCSI University as it received Malaysia’s Best Private University Award by the Private Education Cooperative of Malaysia. The award was presented at the Private Education Excellence Awards 2019 held at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka.

The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with the National Teachers Day celebration and the winners were selected under different categories, namely Teaching, Science, Arts and Design, Engineering, Research and Innovation, and Humanities among others.

UCSI Group founder and CEO, Dato’ Peter Ng was present to accept the award at the ceremony and to share a few words on the success of the University.

“On behalf of the UCSI University family, I would like to thank you for this honour. Being recognised as Malaysia’s best private institution means a lot to us and we are gratified that all our hard work since 1986 has paid off. I’m not sure how many of you know this but UCSI started under extremely humble circumstances. To come this far is truly a blessing,” he said.

In celebration of the contribution of teachers today, Ng emphasised that teachers are like ‘candles’ where it seems as though they are burning themselves to give light to others.

However, he said, when their students excel in exams, their career and most importantly, life, there is no greater reward.

“It is often said that our students will go on to be tomorrow’s leaders. In this light, be encouraged that their future and that of this great nation, will depend on you,” he added.

Selected UCSI University staff from various departments who have excelled in their respective fields were also honoured with certificates and awards at the ceremony.

Present at the ceremony was Ministry of Education Director of the Private Education Department, Datin Seri Hajah Nor Zamani who reiterated that the ceremony was indeed meaningful to outstanding private educators in the nation.

“Teachers responsibly uphold the national interest through the education system and in this 21st century, it is important to improve the quality and accessibility to education,” she said.

According to her, the education system currently takes up 20% of the annual budget, where there is a total of 153 new schools in the nation in 2019.

Also present at the ceremony was Private Education Cooperative of Malaysia chairman , Dato’ R. Rajendran who further commented that the ceremony was to celebrate the success and achievements of private educators in the country.

“It is evident that students need role models to emulate. Teachers, in turn, mould the future of the nation. Therefore, approaches and programmes should be relevant to the future. Teaching must come from the heart with the aim of improving the lives of fellow Malaysians,” he said.

The mission of the Private Education Cooperative of Malaysia is to establish a strong network among members to empower them through education and training opportunities, to enable them to enjoy welfare and financial assistance.

As such their vision is to be a leading Malaysian private education co-operative committed to serving its members and to the well-being of society.

The awards ceremony, held for the fifth year, had around 350 educationists from 70 private institutions attending. It was truly a testament of the accomplishment and achievements of private educators from the preschool to the university level.
